Each Step a Mantra
This series of gouache paintings on prints were initiated for The Walking Library. I was invited to contribute to this mobile and socially adaptive archive of books about women walking, spanning rural and urban environs in London and Edinborough. I developed this series through the process of walking, writing, and reading (e.g., Rebecca Solnit’s Extraordinary Communities That Arise in Disaster, Ernesto Pujol’s Reflections on Socially Engaged Paths, and Dee Heddon and Cathy Turner’s writings on walking women). In this series, representations of loss are rescued from media sources and mixed with my personal photo documentation of walking performances. These images frame the aftermath of catastrophic social and geologic events, leaving trace of a repetitive material process. Manual pdf
